LETTER TO THE EDITOR
The Editor, I have become apprised of the community discussions within our community with respect to the depressing demise of Magnetic Island Community Care and particularly the recent Facebook conversations about the ownership of the MICare property at 7 Apjohn Sreet. So instead of a Facebook reply I thought that maybe Magnetic Community News could be a better way to communicate. To that end I attach three short papers that: 1. answer the 7 Apjohn ownership question, 2. ex

Dear Editor, Some of the candidates for Mayor of Townsville have dedicated active social media accounts. Anne- Maree Greaney has an Instagram account called amgformayor. She's posted a video about herself which includes the following: She says that after she finished high school she obtained a "Diploma In Education" and then taught at Rasmussen State School. Yet when she provided The Bulletin with validation of her educational qualifications all she confirmed was a certifica

Community Notice MINCA dredging presentation/workshop
The regular sea dumping of dredge spoil at the entrance to Cleveland Bay is set to continue, despite the strong message from the community to the Port of Townsville that the dump site should be moved to deeper water. A deeper dump site would avoid the continued re-suspension of dumped spoil by wave action and its re-distribution around the bay and around Magnetic Island. The Port will shortly apply for another 10 year permit to continue dumping at the current site. Come alo

Mayoral Candidate Ann-Maree Greaney

My focus is on experienced leadership, enhancing our liveability, and listening to the community before decisions are made that affect you. As Townsville grows, I want to make sure that it doesn't lose the fantastic lifestyle that makes it such a special place to live. Magnetic Island is an important part of that. In my time as Division 3 Councillor, I've f

Mayoral Candidate Joanne Kuene
My 3 pillars as MAYOR are : SERVICE: Get the basics right — water, sewerage, roads, rubbish, rates and public transport. Maintain what we’ve got first — like clean toilets on The Strand — before wasting money on “beauty projects.” INTEGRITY: Restore trust. Bring back Council committees for transparency and accountability. Councillors back in their suburbs, listening and fixing every issue for every resident. COMMUNITY: Townsville’s heart is its people. More youth spaces —

Re: Future-Proofing Aged Care Services for Magnetic Island Residents Magnetic Island Community Care is the island's largest provider of aged care, having served our residents for 28 years.
