Townsville City Council will close venues across the city in response to the COVID-19 lockdown announced today.
Venues closed will include the Customer Service Centre, CityLibraries, Galleries, the Civic Theatre, all public pools, the Strand Waterpark, and other community venues.
The closures will commence from 6pm tonight until 6pm, 2 July (pending the lifting of the lockdown restrictions).
Townsville Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chairperson Jenny Hill said Council would continue to provide all essential services.
“Council will be closing all public venues that are non-essential from 6pm today in line with the State Government’s directives regarding the lockdown in Townsville,” Cr Hill said.
“Residents will still be able to call our Customer Service Call Centre for support on 13 48 10, but our face-to-face services will be closed until the lockdown is lifted.
“The TLDMG will continue to provide any updates as more information is made available.
“We urge residents to stay at home and only travel for essential reasons such as accessing healthcare, buying groceries or medication, or exercising in their local area.
“Residents should also wear a mask whenever they leave their homes and remember to regularly sanitise their hands to minimise the potential for the virus to spread.”
Residents should only leave their home for the following reasons:
obtaining essential goods or services, including healthcare (including vaccinations)
exercise
attending essential work or childcare
assisting vulnerable persons
