Monitoring on Magnetic - a community workshop for citizen science

Have you ever wondered who monitors what around the Island? Have you seen scientists out in the bay and wondered what they were doing? Here is your chance to find out! We have gathered all scientists and managers who are working in our waters to tell us what they have been up to.

There will be representatives from Australian Institute of Marine Science, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Coral Sea Foundation, Townsville City Council, Port of Townsville, James Cook University, Arcadia Coast Care, Wulgurukaba Working Group, Magnetic Island Nature Care, Sea Research, ReefCheck Australia, Tangaroa Blue and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

Join us for lunch, an afternoon of talks followed by a social BBQ on Friday 27 May at Amaroo On Mandalay.

The following morning on Saturday 28 May, we will be asking for questions about the Island or perhaps you are able to help answer ours. We aim to design community monitoring activities that will build on the work of the scientists and managers with your knowledge and on the ground skills.

The workshop is being organised by Our World Heritage Island, part of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation’s Community Action Plan (CAP) program. We will keep you posted with the details. For more information or to register your attendance, please contact Jo Marks at ecosystemsMI@outlook.com.
