Townsville City Council is committed to maintaining a safe and reliable road network across Magnetic Island and the wider region.
As part of our annual Roadworks Program, essential resurfacing and line marking works will be carried out in Nelly Bay, Horseshoe Bay, and McCabe Crescent in Arcadia.
These upgrades are designed to improve road conditions, enhance safety, and support the ongoing growth of our community.
Horseshoe Bay Roadworks
These works will involve removing and replacing damaged sections of road pavement with new asphalt across three key roads:
Horseshoe Bay Road – Monday, 14 July
Pollard Street – Tuesday, 15 July
Apjohn Street – Wednesday, 16 July
Nelly Bay Roadworks
These works will involve removing and replacing damaged sections of road pavement with new asphalt across five key roads:
Mandalay Avenue – Friday, 18 July
Hurst Street – Friday, 18 July and Saturday, 19 July
Yates Street – Monday, 21 July
Compass Crescent – Tuesday, 22 July
Nelly Bay Road – Sunday, 27 July – Tuesday, 31 July
The McCabe Crescent Roadworks, located within the street boundaries of Bright Avenue through to the end of McCabe Crescent in Arcadia, are scheduled to commence on Thursday, 17 July 2025 and are expected to take one day to complete.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation while these important works are underway.
Council will make every effort to minimise disruptions and maintain access to properties throughout the construction period.

What about the state of Kelly and Barton Street where the Diversion because of the rebuild of the Bridge so overdue for repairs, ripped apart in the heavy rain. Townsville Council you take our Rates on the Island and do so little here. Its a disgrace. What about the drain in Apjohn, it is an eyesore, all that work and we are left with that, no walkway, thats a safety issue. It would be lovely to see all our rate money go to achieve just normal safety isues and remove the eyesores you create. When in Townsville there were so many personnel in Nathan Street upgrading the roadside gardens. We do not even get the nature strips cut.…
