As part of Council’s ongoing Back to Basics investment, these works will renew sections of deteriorated road infrastructure between Elena Street and the Sooning Street intersection. The project includes road pavement renewal, drainage improvements, bus stop pad maintenance, and intersection upgrades at Barton Street, Murray Street and Sooning Street. These improvements will help enhance safety, accessibility and connectivity for residents, visitors, and local businesses.

Works are planned to start in late-November 2026 and are expected to take three (3) weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Works are expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting. During construction there may be some temporary traffic changes, minor delays, construction activity, and adjustments to bus stop locations where required. Council will work to minimise impacts wherever possible and will provide a further notification prior to works commencing.

Normal work hours are from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. In exceptional cases, work may be required outside these hours.

As part of these works, Council will:

remove and replace sections of the existing road pavement with new asphalt

improve sections of drainage infrastructure and pavement edges

maintenance to bus stop pads

undertake intersection improvements at Barton Street, Murray Street and Sooning Street

restore road markings, reflective markers or signage as required

If you live, work or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

construction machinery and vehicle movement

temporary traffic changes, including lane closures, minor traffic delays, detours and reduced speed limits

increased levels of dust, noise and vibrations

temporary changes to bus stop locations and services where required.

Council will notify directly impacted properties at least seven (7) days before work commences.
