The Crisafulli Government is investing $289,116 to expand and upgrade the irrigation system at Magnetic Island Country Club.

This funding has been awarded through the Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program, which is delivering a $30 million investment to help local Queensland organisations upgrade sporting facilities, encourage more people to get active, and build a lasting legacy ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The irrigation upgrade will help support the ongoing use of the Magnetic Island golf course, bringing people together through sport and recreation.

Member for Townsville, Adam Baillie MP, said local sporting clubs would play an important role in Townsville’s sporting future as Queensland prepares for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Magnetic Island has a great community sporting culture, and this investment will help the Magnetic Island Country Club continue to provide a place for locals and visitors to enjoy golf,” Mr. Baillie said.

“With the 2032 Games on the horizon, investing in grassroots sporting facilities is about more than the years ahead. It’s about giving our community better facilities to play, train and develop their skills, while helping create more opportunities for athletes pursuing their sporting ambitions.

“This $289,116 upgrade will support the club for years to come and help ensure Magnetic Island continues to be part of Townsville’s growing sporting future.”

Magnetic Island Country Club Treasurer Theresa Spence said the funding would be an important investment in the club’s future.

“The irrigation upgrade will make a real difference to the ongoing maintenance of our golf course and help us continue providing a place for people to enjoy golf on Magnetic Island,” Mrs. Spence said.

“We’re grateful for this support, which will help us improve our facilities and continue serving our members and the wider community for years to come.”
