Council wants to know how residents rate their neighbourhood

Townsville City Council has launched its latest Rate Your Neighbourhood liveability study to find out how the community views their suburbs.

Residents from all of Townsville’s 88 suburbs will be asked to complete a short online survey to identify what they value most in their neighbourhoods and how they believe their neighbourhoods are performing.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the information was invaluable to help Council get a clearer picture of how the community view the areas where they play and stay.

“The findings from this study will give Council more insight into what the community value most in the area they live,” Cr Hill said.

“The aim is for the information to help guide future investment and inform where Council can focus its efforts to ensure Townsville is a place where people want to work, live and invest.

“We have opened this up to all of Townsville and we are encouraging as many people as possible to take 10 minutes to share their insights into their neighbourhood.

“The more people we have who complete the study, the clearer the picture we will have of where we need to invest and what we need to do to help grow Townsville.”

The liveability study is the first city-wide neighbourhood survey conducted in Townsville since 2019.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said it would let Council know if and how community’s values may have changed following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During the height of the pandemic, we all spent a lot more time at home and around our neighbourhoods,” Cr Greaney said.

“We are interested to know how this may have changed how people view and value their suburbs and what other features they may like to see.

“The questions range from how you rate the overall visual appeal of the neighbourhood to the neighbourhood spirit, quality of public spaces, ease of driving and range of housing types.

“We are encouraging residents to take 10-15 minutes out of their day to complete the study. Anyone who takes part will also go into the draw to win one of 10 online shopping vouchers valued at $100.”

The study is open now and closes on 13 October 2022.
