Townsville City Council is committed to delivering well-maintained infrastructure and efficient transportation systems, with over $400 million being invested in roads and transport management, open spaces, water, and wastewater management this financial year.
As part of this commitment, Council is upgrading the roads around Armand Way and Hayles Avenue, Arcadia.
However, recent cancellations by local commercial barge operators due to the approaching TC Jasper have affected our ability to complete the asphalting work along Marine Parade, Armand Way, and Hayles Avenue. Barge services have recommenced, and our priority is to complete asphalting as soon as possible to seal these busy roads before the Christmas holiday and further wet season weather.
To minimise the disruption this delay may cause, Council aims to complete these activities between Saturday, 16 December and Wednesday, 20 December 2023, weather permitting.
Work hours will be from 6am to 6pm and include work on Sunday. During construction, traffic management and lane closures will cause traffic delays. Island residents and visitors are encouraged to allow for extra travel time. Flashing lights, dust and noise may be associated with these activities.
BMD Constructions, a local contractor, is delivering this project on Council's behalf and will continue to update the Island community as these works progress. BMD will take a break from Friday, 22 December 2023, and recommence work on Monday, 8 January 2024.
Work in the new year will include installing associated safety signage, line marking, and minor concrete pours. Council expects this project to be complete by March 2024, weather permitting.
We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your patience. If you have any questions about these works, please get in touch with our project team during business hours on 13 48 10 or email enquiries@townsville.qld.gov.au.
Council wishes the Island community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government's Local Road Network Capital Grants Program in association with Townsville City Council.
