A Fresh Start for Magnetic Island

If elected Mayor, I will ensure Magnetic Island is no longer treated as an afterthought. For too long, this community has endured crumbling roads, neglected infrastructure, environmental mismanagement, and weak representation. My vision is simple — restore trust, transparency, and tangible outcomes for Magnetic Island residents and ratepayers.

1. Open Book Policy – Real Transparency for Locals

Under my Open Book Policy, Townsville City Council will operate as a fully transparent organisation. Every major project, contract, and expenditure will be accessible to the public through an online transparency portal.

For Magnetic Island, that means locals can see where their rates go, how much has been allocated for roads, waste management, dredging, and beach restoration, and hold council accountable for delays or cost blowouts.

Transparency is not just a slogan — it’s the foundation of trust.

2. Community Consultation Charter – Locals’ Voices in Every Decision

I will embed Magnetic Island residents directly into council decision-making through my Community Consultation Charter.

This means:

  • Quarterly divisional forums where island residents can question council officers and receive updates.

  • Online feedback tools for projects affecting the island.

  • Mandated 30-day public consultation periods before any major decision or works approval.

This charter guarantees that no project — from dumping at Kelly Street to bridge replacements or tourism plans — can proceed without genuine local consultation.

3. Full Investigation & Audit – Fixing the Failures of the Past

My first act as Mayor will be to launch an independent forensic audit into Townsville City Council’s finances and project management.

This includes a detailed review of:

  • Funding allocations and project delivery for Magnetic Island infrastructure

  • Environmental and dredge spoil decisions affecting local waterways

  • Ratepayer loans and whether they have been misused for projects that don’t benefit the island community

These investigations, supported by my formal request before the Clerk of the Parliament, aim to expose systemic mismanagement, political interference, and ensure accountability for every dollar spent.

Delivering for the Island

If elected, I will:

  • Fast-track repair of the Sooning Street Bridge and key access roads.

  • Oppose the proposed Kelly Street dredge spoil dump, replacing it with a suction dredge and hydro-cyclone beach restoration model.

  • Support a dedicated Magnetic Island Infrastructure Fund, tied to tourism revenue and ferry terminal fees.

  • Reinstate regular TCC community service days on the island to deliver visible maintenance and improvement.

A Message to Magnetic Island Residents

Magnetic Island deserves a Mayor who listens, not one who hides behind bureaucracy. My commitment is simple: to give power back to the people, open the books, clean up the waste, and rebuild trust in Townsville’s local government.

Democracy Over Bureaucracy – Townsville for Townsville.
