Townsville City Council is committed to delivering well-maintained infrastructure and efficient transportation systems, with over $400 million being invested in roads and transport management, open spaces, water, and wastewater management this financial year.
As part of this commitment, Council is preparing to upgrade a portion of stormwater drainage in Arcadia. The upgrade will assist with increasing stormwater flow and minimise the risk of potential flooding on Hayles Avenue through Armand Way.
As these works will require a temporary road closure, Council will undertake these activities at night to reduce disruption to the Magnetic Island community.
Council will commence works on Wednesday, 4 October 2023 and expects to take three nights to complete, weather permitting.
Armand Way will be closed at the intersection of Hayles Avenue from 11pm to 4am each night. Council will secure a temporary trench cover over the work area and reopen the road to traffic outside these hours.
Council encourages residents and visitors to plan their activities and transportation requirements around these essential upgrades. Works will include traffic control, operation of machinery throughout the work area, noise, dust, vibration, and flashing lights.
An emergency detour will be in place along the laneway that connects Armand Way to the northern end of Cook Road.
BMD Constructions, a local contractor, will deliver these works on behalf of the Council.
