STATE OF ORIGIN GAME ONE – Townsville!

Townsville will host State of Origin game one on Wednesday, June 9, with the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria forcing a change of venue from the MCG.

This is fantastic news for all of North Queensland and let’s join together in unity to provide a great NQ Welcome to fans from across the nation to our home.

Queensland Country Bank Stadium is a state-of-the-art venue with the capabilities to host an event with a global audience like Origin, placing it ahead of alternative regional locations.

Council will transform the city into an Origin fortress of colour, movement and activities throughout Flinders Street, Victoria Bridge and the Stadium Precinct.

TOWNSVILLE EATS: ORIGIN EDITION

Council in support will provide a Townsville Eats style event at three locations to activate and keep the momentum rolling:

  • Flinders Street – between the street boundaries of Stanley Street through to Wickham Street,

  • North Shore, and

  • Riverway Stadium.

These activations will be family-style events with the event in Flinders Street drawing a pre-match crowd into the heart of the CBD before the State of Origin game at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

The three activation events will provide food and entertainment in celebration of Townsville hosting the State of Origin game. Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit one of the activation venues to watch the game live on the big screen, enjoy the fresh food from the Food Trucks, enjoy the live music, and roving entertainment with kids amusements and more!
