Solar Panels to be installed on Men's Shed

Magnetic Island Men's Shed ("MI Mens' Shed") and Totally Renewable Magnetic ("TRM") are pleased to announce that they have been successful in applying to the Queensland Department of Environment and Science under the Community Sustainability Action Program for a grant to put solar panels and associated equipment on the MI Men's Shed's new premises in Picnic Bay. MI Men's Shed is moving from Horseshoe Bay to Picnic Bay in the middle of 2023 and the grant will enable them to install 9.96kW of solar panels (e.g. 24 x 415W) and an 8 kW inverter. "This should allow MI Men's Shed to continue to access cheap renewable power and hopefully to continue to enjoy power without an electricity bill. MI Men's Shed would like to thank TRM for their help in bringing this grant to our attention and their help in drafting the grant application. Townsville City Council also deserves thanks for their letter of support for the application process." said Mark Lucas, Secretary of MI Men's Shed. "This will add to the already more than 3.5MW of solar panels on Magnetic Island and be another step towards making Magnetic Island's electricity supply more renewable. It was a real pleasure to assist the MI Men's Shed in this way." said Joe Niven, Coordinator of Totally Renewable Magnetic.
