Register your Neighbour Day event for a chance to win

The community you want starts at your front door, which is why Townsville City Council wants you to register your 2023 Neighbour Day event with 25 $200 vouchers up for grabs to put towards the celebration.

Council has partnered with Relationships Australia to bring together the people next door, across the street, or on the next farm on Sunday March 26.

Townsville residents can now register their Neighbour Day event with Council to go in the running to win a voucher, helping locals connect and build meaningful connections during Neighbour Day and into the future.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said Neighbour Day was an ideal day to break the ice with neighbours on your street or in your area.

“There’s no doubt that it can be awkward to strike up a conversation with a neighbour out of the blue, but hosting a Neighbour Day event is a great way to bridge that gap and create real and meaningful friendships with the people you live closest to,” Cr Greaney said.

“Townsville has a high resident turnover because of our military bases, universities and hospitals, so there’s always a new neighbour to meet on your street or at your apartment complex.

“Council has supported Neighbour Day for more than eight years, and in that time we’ve seen countless successful Neighbour Day parties and events bring locals together. Becoming friends with your neighbours helps create a sense of belonging and pride in your neighbourhood, helping Townsville becoming a more connected and liveable city.

“In past years we’ve had street parties, cul-de-sac picnics and backyard barbecues across Townsville suburbs to celebrate Neighbour Day.

“Council is offering the opportunity for 25 people to win a $200 voucher to go towards their Neighbour Day event this March. All you need to do is tell us in 200 words or less how you plan to build meaningful connections on Neighbour Day and beyond.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all of the Neighbour Day parties next month, so register your event and invite your neighbours now and don’t forget to tag us on Facebook or Instagram at your Neighbour Day event this year.”

To register your event and go in the running to win one of 25 $200 vouchers, head to Council’s website. Entries close at 11.59pm on Sunday March 5.
