Townsville City Council will be carrying out essential dredging work at Nelly Bay Harbour from mid-April 2025. The Bay and Marina facilities will remain open and accessible during this work.
Dredged material will be taken by truck for management/storage at our Kelly Street site, for later reuse on Magnetic Island. We expect minimal impact on residents or businesses from dredging, transport, management, or storage of this material. It is expected to take around 8 weeks to return the waterways to safe, navigable depths.
At our community information session, we’ll share more detailed plans for all aspects of this work and answer any questions. Between 10.15 and 10.45, there will be presentations on the dredging, removal, management, and storage activities, with the rest of the session available for questions. You’ll also find updates online throughout the project – visit the Townsville City Council website and search ‘Nelly Bay dredging’.
