Gustav Creek crocodile trap
Following reports from locals about a problem crocodile in Gustav Creek, Nelly Bay, staff from the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation have today (Tuesday 5 August) deployed a trap to catch and relocate the animal.
Please avoid the area. Interfering with traps is illegal and dangerous, with significant penalties for those who tamper with them.
Picnic Bay Jetty repairs
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) has confirmed maintenance works on the Picnic Bay Jetty have commenced, after severe weather earlier this year exacerbated damage to the jetty, making it unsafe.
Works are expected to be completed by 21 August, weather permitting.
Repairs will be undertaken by SMC Marine Pty Ltd, with the jetty closed to the public until works have been completed and final condition assessments are undertaken.
Maritime Safety Queensland urges mariners and the public to please use caution around the worksite, both on water and on land, while the repairs are carried out.
Picnic Bay amenity block
Works on the new amenities block at Picnic Bay are continuing.
Townsville City Council advises practical completion is likely to be on or around 12 September, pending final inspections.
The mural artwork is scheduled for completion on 19 September, in time for the school holidays.
