LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Zero Waste? Respectfully and without prejudice!

POINT: All rubbish from the Island, Residential and Tourism, should be sent back to the mainland for professional sorting and recycling instead of browbeating and incentivizing (Fining) forgetful pensioners, consummated by a photo and Auto billed by the hard cold hand and camera of robot law!

The State and TCC pressure thru MICDA/MINCA into the community to feel guilty for merely existing, is a very low form of humanity!

We are being perved on, scrutinized in public, our yards and households, made feel overly guilty about our Power, Water, Waste and Sewage ….. that we cost too much to exist and need to cut down…… niggling… niggling, year after year, and instigated by the supposed intelligent Governing bodies. Adding to our local woes we are 24/7/365 hounded by an overarching pressure of concern in Global Warming and adding to that we have the added overarching pressure of supposed World Heritage Status, Marine and Terrestrial National Parks.

If the case is real, then we, the guilty community of Magnetic Island , the Slaves to Tourism, must formally request the governing bodies to define their focus on the real culprit ….. Tourism. The pressure on the community tends to be an insignificant byproduct compared to the Tourism much heavier full Bullocky Dray.

IS THE STATE’S/TCC REAL FOCUS TO GET RID OF THE MAGNETIC ISLAND COMMUNIUTY IN FAVOUR OF EXPANDING TOURISM?

ARE MICDA & MINCA THE STATE’S/TCC’s OPERATIONAL TOOLS? “Convince the community by using the community”, that Hans Christian Anderson’s King really does have a new suit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQQ3LCWZJd4

Waste is a problem around the World…… That is because we have all become affluent enough to purchase the packaged goods but have failed to apply that affluence and intelligence to the recycling of the packaging of our more modern existence.

All rubbish must, as soon as possible, go into one bin for professional sorting and 100% recycling.

“Zero Waste” is a pathetic nonsense full of little rules ……….”100% Recycling” by paid experts is the truth!

To do an “Ostrich” and say that we can’t afford it is absolute nonsense. Time to change to a positive mindset, and it won’t start here by making the Magnetic Island community and Tourists feel guilty.

Start with $600,000.00 from MICDA and the 10cent containers.

How much further do the supposed intelligent authorities want to deliver the pressure on our community?

Sincerely,

Michael Schmidt.

MAGNETIC ISLAND.

Mike, the least you could have done is provide a link to the Zero Waste Magnetic Island website (google it) so that children and adults can learn about positive participation in community-based projects to reduce waste and increase recycling. This is so much more constructive than urging the government or council to bung everything (food scraps, cardboard, meat wrappers, cans and bottles, industrial and construction waste) all into one bin and get someone else (prisoners, the unemployed, even pensioners?), somewhere else, to unscramble it all. WTF?

Charlie,

A couple of RTI's should flush out 'any deals', unless they were written and signed with invisible ink, the wheels are already in motion. It is not just Jenny Hill who has mentioned the 'deal', several other far more trust worthy people than her have spoken to the MCN.

The letter that Michael wrote, we agree in principle that ALL waste should transported to town for sorting, although we believe the current system of 2 bins - 1 general waste - 1 recycled items is better. We certainly do not need other areas of land on the island used as a general waste sorting facility and a industrial scale BIO Gen plant set up here.

So why are we…

I question, if there is a real threat to humanity because of climate and its change, why aren,t we targeting the big corporations? Why isn,t solar power and batteries being given to all households for free?, instead of building massive infrastructure so that our power can still go through government control. Why aren,t the youth of the future being taught how to grow their own food? Is it possible that the governments are afraid that we can actually look after ourselves, are they afraid of communities uniting, are they afraid they will lose control?
