Horseshoe Bay Road Rehabilitation and Guardrail Project - Update 3


Townsville City Council continues to improve road safety along Horseshoe Bay Road. Guardrail Installation Works Over the next week, Council expects to complete the first portion of guardrail installation works along the section of Horseshoe Bay Road leading up to the Forts car park. Council has scheduled this section of Horseshoe Bay Road to return to two-way traffic by Friday, 22 July 2022, weather permitting. The Forts car park will also reopen on completion of this portion of works. Council plans to begin the second portion of works along the section of Horseshoe Bay Road, leading away from the Forts car park and towards Horseshoe Bay, on Monday, 18 July 2022. This section of Horseshoe Bay Road will also be under traffic control throughout construction activities. Council expects this section of Horseshoe Bay Road to return to two-way traffic by Friday, 29 July 2022, weather permitting. Council has scheduled the third portion of guardrail installation works along a section of Horseshoe Bay Road, heading towards Olympus Crescent, to begin on Monday, 25 July 2022. Additionally, the walking track that runs parallel to this portion of the works may need to be closed full-time to pedestrians during and outside regular work hours. Council expects this section of Horseshoe Bay Road to return to two-way traffic by Friday, 5 August 2022, weather permitting. Kerb and Channel and Pathway Works The kerb and channel works along a section of Horseshoe Bay Road between Apjohn and Heath Streets are ongoing. The pathway works at the Henry Street car park are also nearing completion. Council expects both of these sections of Horseshoe Bay Road to return to two-way traffic byFriday, 22 July 2022, weather permitting. Council plans to begin pathway works along a section of Horseshoe Bay Road between Henry Lawson and Heath Street on Friday, 22 July 2022. Council expects this section of Horseshoe Bay Road to return to two-way traffic by Friday, 29 July 2022, weather permitting. Asphalt Works Council plans to begin asphalt works along a section of Horseshoe Bay Road between Nautilus Street and Pacific Drive on Monday, 1 August 2022. Council expects this section of Horseshoe Bay Road to return to two-way traffic by Friday, 5 August 2022, weather permitting. A local contractor, BMD, is delivering all of these works on behalf of Council. BMD will direct these works under traffic control, with rolling lane closures occurring throughout these sections of Horseshoe Bay Road. Regular work hours are 6 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday, and 6 am to 2 pm on Saturday. In exceptional cases, Council may need to work outside these hours, including night works as required. Traffic control will remain active outside these hours. Council will continue to update residents as these works progress.
