Townsville City Council is undertaking management works at the Corica Street drain and Horseshoe Bay Lagoon on Magnetic Island to improve drainage system to improve water flow and support the long-term health of the lagoon.

Significant rainfall during 2024/25 resulted in sediment being washed through the Corica Street drainage system and deposited within Horseshoe Bay Lagoon, reducing water movement and impacting lagoon health. These works will remove accumulated sediment from the lagoon and sections of the drainage system, while undertaking minor revegetation to stabilise drain banks, improve water quality and support the long-term health of this important environmental asset.

A local Magnetic Island contractor has been engaged to carry out the works.

Location

Corica Street & Horseshoe Bay Lagoon, Magnetic Island (refer to map on page 2).

Works will commence from Monday 12 October 2026 and are expected to take four (4) weeks to complete, weather and site conditions permitting.

Normal work hours are from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. In exceptional circumstances, work may be required outside these hours.
