Townsville City Council is committed to preserving and enhancing our natural environments.

As part of this ongoing effort, Council will be undertaking vital environmental recovery works in Gustav Creek, Nelly Bay.

These works aim to restore the creek’s ecological health following recent weather events and ensure its long-term resilience.

The environmental recovery works will take place along Gustav Creek, between Sooning Street and Barton Street.

Scheduled to commence on Monday, 27 October 2025, the project is expected to run approximately one week, subject to weather and site conditions.

Work hours will be 6am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, with occasional activity outside these hours if necessary.

Scope of Works:

Key activities include:

  • Removal of large deadwood debris to prevent riverbank erosion, in line with natural waterway design principles.

  • Oversight and management of environmental impacts by Council staff throughout the project.

Community Impact

Residents and visitors in the area may notice:

  • Movement of construction vehicles and machinery.

  • Temporary increases in dust, noise, vibrations, and occasional odours.

This project is fully funded by Townsville City Council.
