Goalposts Netting Installation

Townsville City Council is committed to delivering well-maintained infrastructure and efficient transportation systems, with over $400 million being invested in roads, transport management, open spaces, and water and wastewater management this financial year. As part of this commitment, Council plans to install new netting on the goalposts at Horseshoe Bay Park on Magnetic Island.

Home to the Magnetic Island Magpies AFL Club, the new netting will provide a cost-effective and safe solution to prevent footballs from getting lost mid-match or kicked towards the nearby drainage and roadway. Council will also save on installation costs by enlisting the help of a local contractor, Townsville Helicopters, to lift the netting into place.

The entire oval will be closed to the public during installation for safety reasons, as there may be flashing lights, dust, and noise.

The installation works will begin at 9am on Thursday, September 21, 2023, and should be completed by midday, weather permitting.

We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your patience during this time.
