Geoffrey Bay Coastal Management Works

Townsville City Council is preparing to commence coastal management works along the Geoffrey Bay foreshore, including reshaping sections of the beach that are most vulnerable to erosion and carrying out maintenance to beach access paths.

These works are part of Council’s ongoing commitment to protecting and managing the coastline following the impacts of recent weather events. The project will help restore affected areas, improve foreshore stability, protect public assets and maintain safe community access to the beach.

Works are planned to start in mid-October 2026, and works are expected to take two (2) weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Regular work hours are from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. In exceptional cases, work may be required outside these hours.

As part of these works, Council will: place sand on vulnerable sections of the foreshore to improve stability and help protect public assets

monitor and manage environmental impacts associated with the works.

If you live in visit or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

temporary partial beach closures within the work area

increased construction vehicle and machinery movements

increased levels of dust, noise, and vibrations.

Council will notify impacted properties at least seven (7) days before work commences.
