Disaster management group moved to stand-up

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has moved to a ‘stand-up’ posture in response to a positive COVID case having visited Magnetic Island and Townsville last week.

TLDMG chairperson Jenny Hill said the change in posture ensured all relevant agencies were working together and ready to respond as conditions changed. The TLDMG will meet today at 3pm to discuss the latest situation and strategies moving forward.

The Premier has announced a three-day lockdown for Townsville (including Magnetic Island) and Palm Island from 6pm tonight.

  • To buy essentials such as groceries or medications.

  • Work or study if you can’t do either from home.

  • Exercise in their local area.

  • Healthcare or to provide help, care or support.

As chairperson of TLDMG, Cr Hill urged the community to ensure they followed all Queensland Health directives, including only travelling for essential purposes. For more information visit the Queensland Government COVID-19 website.

“It is essential all Townsville residents following the Chief Health Officer’s advice including staying at home but, if you have to leave your home, you must maintain social distancing, wear a mask and practice good hand hygiene,” Cr Hill said.

“As a community we have stopped the spread of COVID-19 before and, by working together, we can do it again.”
