Townsville City Council will be undertaking guardrail replacement and associated road maintenance works along sections of Nelly Bay Road, as part of its annual Guardrail Renewal Program.
These works are scheduled to commence on Monday 25 May 2026 and are expected to run for approximately six weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.
Works will generally occur between 6am and 6pm Monday to Saturday and will involve the removal and replacement of safety barriers, as well as installation at additional high-risk locations.
During this time, road users can expect traffic control measures, including stop/go conditions, minor delays and an increase in construction activity, noise and dust.
The works area extends along Nelly Bay Road between Nomads Magnetic Island and Apex Camps Magnetic Island, as shown in the attached map.
Notice to Nomads Magnetic Island
We would also like to advise Nomads Magnetic Island specifically that the project team will be establishing a small temporary works office adjacent to the Nomads site, in the location indicated by the red circle in map below.
The setup will support efficient delivery of the works and enable the project team to maintain a local presence throughout construction. We will ensure that the footprint is kept as minimal as possible and that any impacts are carefully managed.
This project is proudly funded by the Queensland
Government through the Transport Infrastructure
Development Schemed program and delivered in
partnership with Council.
