The MCN contacted council earlier in the week with an inquiry for an update on the progess of works being carried out. The region experienced record breaking rain totals during the last wet season. We sent off a list of questions, Council have provided this information:
ROADWORKS
Can the council confirm funds for these works are from the State Govt?
There is a mixture of DRFA and TCC funding for roadworks while the contractors are on the island. Council is ensuring we are being as efficient as possible by delivering works in packages while there is specialised equipment on the island.
What is the total cost of these road roads?
Costing will be available when the program of works is finalised.
When are road works due to begin on the detour roads (due to bridge closure) Mandalay Ave, Barton St, Kelly St in Nelly Bay?
Temporary works to smooth Kelly Street and Barton Street are scheduled before the end of August. Longer term repairs will occur once the route is not the primary detour around Gustav Creek.
PICNIC BAY TOILET BLOCK
When is the new toilet block due to open to the public?
The new toilet block will open to the public in September once the power connection is established and remaining works are complete.
What is the total cost for the toilet block and landscaping?
$900,000
Did the funds for the new toilet block come from the State Govt?
Yes, from the Works for Queensland program 2024-2027.
SOONING ST BRIDGE
Please provide an update on the Sooning St Bridge Nelly Bay.
Council is working with the State Government on the full design of the Sooning Street Bridge. We will be able to provide a timeline of works to the community when we receive approval from the State Government.
The rainfall we experienced at the start of the year was record-breaking and the city is still recovering from its impacts.
The Sooning Street Bridge is very important for connectivity on the island. Council is committed to restoring the bridge as soon as possible.
