Construction of new water mains on Arcadia Road to begin next week

Townsville City Council’s continued focus on delivering quality services on Magnetic Island will see construction of new water mains on Arcadia Road start next week.

The $416,000 project will be delivered by BMD Constructions and will replace aging water pipelines and upgrade connections to neighbouring properties.

Council Water and Waste Committee chairperson Russ Cook said the upgrades are included in a $23.5 million budget spend on water infrastructure across Townsville.

“Council committed to spending more than $20 million to upgrade water mains right across Townsville to improve the water supply for residents and ensure our infrastructure will last into the future,” Cr Cook said.

“This project will ensure residents and businesses in Arcadia Bay have a reliable water supply and will minimise the risk of leaks as the pipeline ages.

“Construction will begin on 4 May and is expected to take a month to complete – weather permitting.

“During this time, there may be changes to the road conditions and I thank residents for their patience and cooperation.”
