On Sunday night over 200 people attended the Xstrata/Lifeline youth project concert held at Picnic Bay. This concert was the culmination of 8 week workshops held over the island. 26 of the island youths participated in music /art/dance and aquaponics/ aqua research, under the guidance of Matt Whitton, Vonnie van Bemmel, Dominic Abraham and Dr. Rick Braley. The concert on Sunday evening was the time for these young adults to strut their stuff, and, there were some very impressive performances, videos, visual art and effects, along with great choreography and techniques.

The workshops have been joint funded by Xstrata and Lifeline, Avril Plath representing Xstrara and Valerie Bonk representing Lifeline came over to watch the concert, both were very impressed.

The project has been under the guidance of the very talented Matt Whitton, who proudly announced that the group have secured an other round of funding enabling more workshops to continue. This new round of workshops would also include working with Magnetic Island Community Care and also primary school age children. This will be a very exciting community project to watch how it evolves until its completion in November.

Matt told the audience “I have to thank our sponsors, all of the facilitators who participated in the this project, a big thankyou to Mark Braggins who enabled us to record in the studio, Mark Hannan for sound equipment and everyone who helped with the project, it has been a buzz for everyone”.

Proud parents, grandparents, friends and those who just came along to enjoy, just sat back, chilled out and enjoyed the bevy of talent we have here on the island. There were some very impressive, strong performances. We are now all looking forward to the next concert, which will be held in November.
