Magnetic Island  can now offer day sails and sunsets sailing to both visitors and locals with  the new tourism venture of Pilgrim Sailing Charters which began last week at Nelly Bay.

There is something invigorating about sail boats that has captured  both sailors and land lovers alike, the hoisting of the sails, the hands on approach of sailing gives a sense of freedom with the wind in your hair and the wonder of nature. What better place to enjoy such an experience than the beauty of Magentic island and Cleveland Bay.

Pilgrim is a Kaufman 58 custom designed  yacht so elegant and well appointed. She was built in Moree in country NSW, Moree was chosen for its climate as there is  little or no humidity.  A team of local skilled workers built her before she was trucked to Fremantle in Western Australia and finally commissioned in 1992.

Her current owners  Clare and Paul Ley purchased her 7 years ago and undertook upgrades to commercially operate her some 18 months later.

For the past 6 years Clare and Paul have been offering commercial charters and twilight racing from Sydney.

Pilgrim has  competed in the Hamilton Island Yacht races for the past 4 years and also sail Port Stephens. Last year the Ley’s sailed Pilgrim to Magnetic island to participate in Magnetic Island Race Week in late August they enjoyed the racing and the island so much they have returned to offer charter day sails here on the island.

Pilgrim will operate from Nelly Bay Marina til the end of September this year before heading south to Sydney for the Twilight Racing calendar until March next year.  Then Clare and Paul will set sail again heading north to Magnetic Island for our tourism  and  North Queensland sailing season till the end of September.

Pilgrim is a beautiful boat she is so well appointed below deck with the internal carpentry  made from Queensland Ash , Pilgrim comfortably sleeps 8, has two bathrooms and a luxury galley with a large  lounge/ saloon area.
